Destination Paddle Camp 2019

Mike Gillespie and Ana Brzova are excited to bring Performance Paddle Camp back on Nantucket Island next September. We have worked together for 9 years at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes NJ and are looking forward to progressing new and returning campers as well as introducing our new 2019 PPC format.

Camp dates for Nantucket will be September 13-22.  Campers will continue to have the flexibility to sign up for sessions that fit their schedule. Session bookings are first come, first serve. Since we are on island for over a week, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and book your camp sessions early.

Retirement News

When Sue Aery, Mike Gillespie and I started Performance Paddle Camp 20 years ago, I never would have guessed that 20 years later it would still be going strong. I’ve loved every minute of my time collaborating with Mike and our incredible team of pros, but I’ve decided that it is time for me to retire, and leave the camp in Mike’s capable hands.

As much as I look forward to pursuing new adventures, it is hard to imagine the Fall without our paddle camps! Meeting and working with so many wonderful campers has been incredibly gratifying, and I have truly enjoyed sharing my passion for the game. You have inspired me to continue to find ways to become  better teacher and the sayings  “happy to hit,” and “calm, normal, behavior,” still make me smile!

I will still be very much involved in platform tennis as a member of the APTA Board of Directors and as the Director of Live Streaming for the Grand Prix Series and The Nationals. Please reach out and say hi if you are watching.

Mike will continue with camps under a new structure and will post camp dates shortly. I have great confidence in him, and his commitment to and passion for teaching the game are as strong as the first day we met.

Thanks so much to everyone who has made this an amazing journey. Paddle will always be my passion.

Hello campers,

Season 20 has been memorable. After a great start in Saugerties at Total Tennis, we had to contend with a prolonged visit from Hurricane Jose in Nantucket. We made the best of the weather and enjoyed presenting Performance Paddle Camp to fun groups of campers.

Season 20 marks the final season of my partnership with my dear friend Gerri Viant.  She is retiring from teaching and will spend her time Live Streaming Grand Prix events and traveling.  We have worked closely together, all across the country, always striving to teach this fabulous sport in a fun and interesting way.  This partnership has been a very fun ride and full of joy and laughter.

Our relationship began when I faced Gerri across the net in the 1987 Mixed Nationals. Gerri and I went on to win the Mixed National title together in 1989, and she also picked up a few other National titles along the way-13 in her amazing Hall of Fame playing career.  Not all great players can teach, but Gerri’s talent for teaching paddle rivals her playing career. Her ability to deliver information with humor and passion makes her a gifted and inspiring teacher. It has been a true gift to teach with Gerri these past 20 years, and I know her spirit will always remain with Performance Paddle Camps.
